John Obi Mikel's incredible Achievement stats for Nigeria as he retires


The former Chelsea midfielder made a total of 88 appearances scoring six goals since making his debut against Libya in a friendly game in 2005.
Mikel has won a bronze, silver and a gold medal representing his fatherland and he is arguably one of the most successful Nigerian player in history.
Here are the unbelievable stats Mikel Obi has under his belt playing for the West African nation
1. Nigeria U-17 (Golden Eaglets)
Mikel was first discovered at the U-17 World Cup in 2003 in Finland when he showed midfield qualities in the midfield.
Nigeria crashed out in group stages with Mikel scoring just one goal and announcing himself at the world stage.
2. Nigeria U-20 (Flying Eagles)
The Flying Eagles finished second at the World Youth Championship at the Netherlands to eventual winners Argentina in 2005.
Mikel won the silver ball behind Lionel Messi as he registered a goal and two assists in seven games at the tournament.
He went on to make his full debut with the senior national team later in the year.
3. Nigeria U-23 (Dream Team)
The Rio 2016 Olympics was Mikel's first appearance at the games after missing out in the 2008 edition in 2008 in Beijing.
Mikel led the team to win bronze under the one of most difficult circumstance after the team's preparations suffered several hitches. He registered one goal and four assists in six games at the tournament.
4. The Super Eagles
Mikel scored his first senior goal for the Super Eagles in the 2005 edition against Zimbabwe and replicated the goal-scoring feat in 2008 AFCON with Benin Republic.
The 32-year-old was a key member of the late Stephen Keshi's 2013 squad where the Super Eagles won their third title.
Among his six goals for the Super Eagles include a solo effort against Uruguay at the 2013 Confederation Cup.
