The All Progressive Congress (APC ) Rivers State chapter has suspended a planned congress which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday because of a court injunction obtained by a faction of the party in Rivers state.
The party learned its lessons from the 2019 election, it was barred from participating and eventually lost all elective positions.
The state, ward and local government congresses were scheduled to take place from September 17 to September 28 until some aggrieved members of the party got an order of interim injunction to restrain the APC from organizing congresses.
Disagreements sprang up from controversies over the members appointed in the caretaker committee of the APC in Rivers state which was saddled with the responsibility of conducting a congress.
Sen. Magnus Abe led faction complained that their members were not included in the committee and they went to court and stopped the congress through an injunction.
Members of his group fear that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi wants to hijack the party structures ahead of the congresses by appointing only his loyalists in the caretaker committee.
To rebuild the APC in Rivers state is to bring the aggrieved factions to the round table so that concessions can be made by both factions for the good of APC in Rivers State.
The leaders of the two factions, Rotimi Amaechi and Magnus Abe must also put the party first before their personal interests so that the party does not throw the baby away with the bath water once again in Rivers State as it did in the 2019 elections.
