Federal Government Orders Nigeria Communication Commission to Block More Than 9.2Million Sim Cards

The Federal Government of Nigeria have directed telecommunication companies, through the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) to get at about 9.2 million sim cards without proper registration blocked.
This directive followed the submission of the short-term performance by the NCC as directed by the Minister of Communications Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.
Recall that Pantami had directed all Agencies and Parastatals under his purview to submit their baseline short-term performance targets report.
Based on the directive, the NCC submitted report which stated the figures of improper registered SIM cards in use in the country.
The Commission disclosed a report that an estimated nine million two hundred thousand (9.2M) SIM cards does not comply with the appropriate procedures of SIM cards registration.

In other to ensure maximum compliance, Dr. Pantami directed NCC to ensure that all mobile network operators block all SIM cards that did not meet proper registration standards till the suspended users comply with proper registration procedures.
He said and I quote, that "The security implication of this irregularity is too dangerous to ignore, which the Federal Ministry of Communication will not tolerate or ignore any actions or inaction that will compromise the nation's security."
