The All Progressive Congress is yet to recover from the loss of a state that was once considered as an APC stronghold to the then-opposition Peoples Democratic Party. Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP has floored Adelabu of APC at the Election Petition Tribunal, his election was unanimously upheld.
The APC had lost the 2019 state elections to the Peoples Democratic Party and the candidature of Seyi Makinde after a fiercely contested election.
Even before Seyi Makinde was sworn into office as the governor of Oyo State, there was an exchange of words and differences in opinion between him and the then-governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Upon assumption of office, Governor Makinde had declared free education in the state and was rolling out other amazing programs for the good people of the state.
But while that was going on, the opposition APC was in court, they sought the Election Petition Tribunal to upturn the victory of Governor Seyi Makinde at the March 9 governorship polls and declare Adelabu as the winner.
The case generated a heated debate among stakeholders in the state especially as it appears that Governor Seyi Makinde is currently investigating his predecessor Abiola Ajomobi for corruption.
The court has refused to grant their request and had gone on to uphold the electoral victory of Governor Seyi Makinde at the March 9 governorship polls.
Governor Seyi Makinde has called on the APC to accept the verdict and work with him to move the state forward but whether the APC will heed to the call remains uncertain.
