The Killing of Sacred Python Caused the Death of 36 Cows

It was reported earlier that thunder had struck and killed 36 cows in Ijare mountain in Ifedore local government area of Ondo State. The incident has continued to generate mixed reactions across Nigeria and recent reports from the community suggest that the incident is not limited to the thunder strike alone.

It was alleged that the killing of a Python in the community led to the thunder that killed 36 cows in the mountain and not just mere trespassing of the sacred mountain.

Those who hold this perspective dismissed reports that grazing on the sacred mountain brought about the incident. Rather they claimed that a Python had been killed. The reports did not specify whether the Python was killed by the herdsmen or by members of the community.

In that part of the community, it is said that pythons found there are not killed because they have some connections to the sacred.

The killing of the python caused the desecration that eventually led to the thunder which killed the cows. Some persons, especially of northern extraction, were suspecting foul play in the death of the 36 cows.

However, there was no information from the herdsmen who took the cows to graze on Ijare mountain.
