15 Foreigners Embrace Igbo Culture Adopt Igbo Names

A group of 15 foreigners who traced their historical roots to the Igbo ethnic group have finally visited Nigeria to formally adopt the Igbo culture. They also chose Igbo names for themselves.

As part of the events to mark 400 years of the abolition of the slave-trade, some foreigners have adopted the Igbo tradition after some research into their historical roots.

Present at the event was the Nigerian Minister of Science and Technology Ogbonnaya Onu who is also from the Igbo ethnic group.

The African Americans of Igbo descent as part of their show of the acceptance of their roots adopted Igbo names such as Obinna, Ozioma, Ifeoma among others according to AIT reports.

They were said to have descended from an Igbo slave who played a vital role in the freedom struggle against slavery.
