The minister of Labour and Employment Dr Chris Ngige has scored the government low in employment creation. While admitting that the Buhari led federal government has done much to find jobs for the unemployed youths, it is like a drop in the ocean.
Ngige claims that the federal government has tried to ameliorate the situation through the Npower scheme that has engaged 500,000 Nigerian youths and its Agricultura support programs. These youths are trained on relevant skills to help them cope in society and avoid seeking white-collar jobs.
He also claimed that about 15 million Nigerian youths are currently unemployed and seeking white-collar jobs. The number is increasing and may result in a major national crisis if some drastic measures are not taken to ensure that youths acquire relevant skills and become self-reliant.
