Today is International Day for the girl child and around the world leaders are calling for more protection for the girl child from gender-based violence. They will also be advocating for more stringent punishment for offenders.
In Nigeria, the first lady Mrs Aisha Buhari has called for more protection for the girl child just like other stakeholders but her contribution has sparked wide reactions because of happenings in the past few days.
It was alleged that President Buhari is set to dump Aisha for a new bride who doubles as his minister for humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development.
Some Nigerians feel that she is trying to be relevant amidst rumors that there are plots to replace her in Aso rock.
It was observed that in the past months in Buhari’s second term she was not seen in most public events but rather sent representatives.
