Buhari Jets Off To South Africa For Economic Talks, Sidelines Xenophobia

Buhari’s reluctance to strictly react to the attack on Nigerians and other Africans living in South Africa raised a lot of suspicion. Many people had felt that the leader of the giant of Africa should have roared at the South African government with threats of fire and fury.

Buhari has traveled to South Africa for a three-day official trip to discuss economic issues. The Nigerian government seems overwhelmed by the myriads of challenges that confront her and she is willing to forsake her dignity for some economic leverage from South Africa.

So many may think that way but President Buhari who has been at the helms of affairs for over four years now knows that Nigeria is in dire need of economic growth and that this is not a time to engage in a diplomatic row with a potential helper.

Upon assumption of office as President Buhari had traveled around the world telling world powers that Nigeria is broke and poor.

Although he may mention the issue of xenophobia to the South African government and even beg them to help protect Nigerian citizens, there are no indications that the South African government may heed the plea.
