Successive administrations in Nigeria had promised to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Company which was established during the administration of Alhaji Shehu Shagari.
In an interactive session with the senate committee on solid minerals, mines and steel and metallurgy Mr Olamilekan Adegbite the Minister in charge said that the president will partner with the government of Russia to revive the company which has been described by many as the largest steel company in West Africa.
Efforts to revive the steel company in the past did not record much progress because of corruption and other challenges in concession. It has remained dormant for long.
Nigerians think that if Ajaokuta is made to work as it should, there will be a drastic reduction in unemployment in the country. As Mr President pans to make the official visit to Russia, stakeholders expect some positive development afterward.
