Buhari launched the search for crude oil in the Northern part of Nigeria to the disdain of many people who thought that the country should be moving beyond crude oil.
The search which was long and arduous was a protracted one which has eventually paid off with the recent discovery of crude oil in some parts of the north. The Benue trough, Sokoto basin and Bida basin.
The spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), Mr Samson Makoji announced the discovery claiming that crude oil was discovered,
There may be some political implications to the discovery including the fear that some Nigerians see northern Nigeria as unproductive.
Most people in northern Nigeria are happy about the discovery and hope that when the north becomes oil-rich, it will help to advance their development and not destroy their environment as it did in the South-south, Southwest and South East.
