Former Head of State General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has said that as elder statesmen, they can only advice leaders of today to do what is right for the benefit of the people but cannot impose anything on them.
Babangida made the statement in Minna while playing host to a group of15 priests from various parishes who visited him as part of events to mark their 15th priestly anniversary.
They had complained about the state of the country and asked the former head of state to communicate the wishes of Nigerians to the current government of Muhammadu Buhari and leaders at all levels but the head of state made it clear that he can only advice leaders on what is right but has no power to make them heed their call.
This was revealed by a priest who attended the event alongside his other colics. Fr Anthony stressed that Nigerians should continue to pray and that one day God will hear their prayers.
IBB has remained detached from active politics after he attempted to contest for the office of president in 2011.
