Moslem faithful in Nigeria have been directed to start looking for the moon from Monday 28 October 2019. The announcement was made by the sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar III.
The Sultan is the leader of all Muslims in Nigeria who has been responsible for announcing various dates for Islamic celebrations in the country.
This time, the sighting of the moon will mark Rabi'al-awwal,the birthday of the holy prophet Muhammed (SAW).
Moslems who sight the moon are to report to the nearest district head or mosque so that it can be communicated to the Sultan for an announcement to the entire Muslim community.
Islam has various rites and celebrations which all members are supposed to adhere to.
