The majority of Ndi Igbos in Nigeria are outraged over a recent comment attributed to the governor of Anambra state Willie Obiano concerning the herdsmen crises in the southeast.
Willie Obiano was said to have made the comments while addressing the Miyetti Allah group in the state over the spate of insecurity in the region.
Social media users in large numbers criticized the statement attributed to the governor as weak and indecisive in the face of insecurity and wanton killing by herdsmen and other criminals in the state.
The Miyetti Allah group had claimed that only criminals among them are involved in the farmers-herders crises, they have also shown meaningful commitment to peace in their host communities.
However, Igbos have condemned the statement that is attributed to him insisting that rather than begging for compensation from killer herdsmen, the government should put an end to the insecurity problems caused by herdsmen and other criminals in the state.
Most states in Nigeria are beginning to see negotiations as the best way to handle insecurity across the country. Obiano may remain undeterred by the heavy criticisms that trailed his appeal so long as the people of the state gain respite from rampant killer herdsmen.
