The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Adams Oshiomhole has thrown his weight behind the decision of the federal government of Nigeria to keep the borders closed.
Despite appeals and criticism from the stakeholders both within and outside Nigeria, the government of Nigeria has remained stiff necked, insisting that its neighbors are violating ECOWAS policy with regards to importation.
Oshiomhole who was the custom boss Hameed Ali when some smuggled goods were seized insisted that Nigeria's neighbors import goods into their country and export them to Nigeria which is against ECOWAS policy.
Nigeria loses a lot of revenue to smuggling daily and the federal government is not happy about it. That is why stringent measures are put in place to ensure that whatever revenue is accrued to the federal government, comes directly to it through the appropriate agencies.
He also maintained that the borders will remain closed till Nigeria's neighbors behave.
Nigeria's revenue is said to have risen drastically since the ban on the importation of certain products and the closure of the country's borders, a policy that would not change anytime soon.
