A few days ago, customers of the one of the foremost banks in
Nigeria, first bank received messages in their inbox about the formal
commencement of a N4 charge per USSD services they access through the bank.
Customers of other banks confirmed receiving the same
messages. The reports of these messages sparked a lot of campaigns on social
media and agitations from Nigerians who claim that the charges would further
complicate issues for the Nigerian masses.
However, a day after the charges was suppose to take effect,
First Bank of geria started sending messages to their customers across Nigeria
to disregard the earlier message about a N4 charge for USSD services.
Some people have speculated that the N4 charge was originally
the intention of the bank before relevant regulatory agencies took up the
matter.
If the message sent to customers of irst Bank in Nigeria was
not authorized by the bank then who authorized the dissemination of such information?
Te public are eager to know.
