Most people in Nigeria than see governor
Nyesom Wike as one of the most powerful politicians in Nigeria and the man that
had the easiest election in 2019.
While other states had to struggle to
retain power in the face of stiff opposition, it was a walkover for Governor
Wike.
Wike
thinks that he was the only contestant in the 2019 governorship election i9n
Rivers State. What would have been his stiffest election was averted when the
courts disqualified the All Progressives Congress (APC) and barred them from
fielding any candidate.
Many
weeks to the election, it was not certain who will contest against the PDP
candidate because the court had crippled the main opposition. Ivers people
wondered whether Wike had a hand in the protracted crises that rocked the APC
throughout the election period.
According
to Wike, just two days to the election, he heard that one Awara, a candidate of
the African Action Congress (AAC) was determined to remove him from office.
They had probably met to sign the peace accord to avoid violence during the
election.
Wike
describes Awara as a man who was unknown to the people of the state and thus
could not have won the election.
