Since the 2019 general election, Godswill
Akpabio has had his eyes in the senate. He was offered a ministerial position
by President Buhari in appreciation for his defection from the opposition party
to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
However, Akpabio
continued to fight his case in court claiming that the senatorial election in
which he contested and lost was rigged in favor of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) hi former party.
Recently, the Appeal
court passed its judgment in Akpabio's favor but with a clause.
The election was
canceled in one local government and a rerun was ordered by the court.
Akpabio's main rival Ekpeyong is taking the lead and it is projected that if
Akpabio can get 100% votes from the local government, he will be declared the
winner.
But whether that is
attainable or not remains an issue for another day. Akpabio may even not win
the rerun but he has shown his political relevance to the people of the state.
