It was reported a few
days ago that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has decamped some corp
members for refusing to wear trousers in camp.
The females affected were said to have cited faith reasons
and beliefs as the premise for their refusal to wear trousers. They were asked
to leave the camp for failing to abide by camp rules which included the wearing
of trousers by all corp members because of the paramilitary training involved.
There are reports that the Christian Association of Nigeria
(CAN) has advised corp members who were decamped by the NYSC for refusing to
wear trousers to seek redress in court
CAN saw a lesson from the struggles of Muslim groups to allow
their female kids to wear a hijab to school.
The difference between their case and the plight of these
female corp members is that no Christian group is standing in their defense.
