Celebrity Culture Pushing Nigerians To Travel Out

The test of a change in financial and social status in Nigeria has been shaped by the celebrity-culture over the years. Celebrities usually have a large following and admirers among the youths in Nigeria and their likes and dislikes often becomes a social convention.

People look up to them as role models and moral guide and their standards are increasingly becoming social standards for many people. Most celebrities in Nigeria such as Tonto Dikeh, Omotola Ekehinde and Regina Daniels who recently got a boost in her status have spent their vacations abroad and i9t seems to be a yearly affair.

The practice further begs the question whether the relaxation spots and resorts in Nigeria are not enough to provide the relaxation that the people seek.

Apart from celebrities, Politicians also influence the culture of traveling out for vacations and other important affairs. They are mainly in charge of policy making and implementation and one wonders why they prefer to have their vacation abroad than in Nigeria where so many tourist centers abound.
