Armed robbers were said to have stormed
a community in Ekiti state. They targeted a bank, the United Bank for Africa
(UBA) Oye Ekiti branch where they launched a violent attack.
The bank security doors were vandalized
and the robbers gained entrance where the sum of N23mIlion was n carted away
from the bank.
They did not stop at that as they also
attacked policemen who had tried to stop their operation. Their vehicles were
set ablaze and sporadic shooting took place.
In the course of that, many people were
injured and some were reported dead.
The community is now in confusion over the
incident as the police are yet to give a full report on the incident including
naming the victims and the number of people affected.
Incidents of robbery attacks are rampant
in this part of the year that is close to festivities. Security needs to be strengthened
in most financial institutions nationwide to avoid a repeat of the dastardly
act.
