Former President
Goodluck Jonathan has been one of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party
since his exit from power in 2015. He has supported his party to strengthen its
internal democracy but they are fears that the former president is not happy
with the PDP in Bayelsa state..
The Bayelsa state chapter of the PDP has organized its grand rally for
its candidate Senator Douye Diri for the governorship election that is just
days away.
All PDP faithful assembled in Yenagoa for a grand rally but the
absence of the former President and the influential governor Wike was
conspicuous.
Most PDP supporters are aware of the growing influence of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state. One of their former governors and
an APC stalwart Timipre Sylva is a member of Buhari’s cabinet and he is
considered very influential.
They are more worried because former President Jonathan had made a visit
to Buhari in Aso rock about a month ago to discuss matters which are believed
to be unconnected with Bayelsa politics.
