Northern Nigeria has been considered as the guilty party when it comes to child marriage but a viral photo which is trending online may have challenged that.
A 17 years old boy and his 16 years old lover have officially tied the knot as husband and wife according to the traditions of the Igbo people.
The viral photo generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians especially northernors who heavily criticised the Ibos for practicinh child marriage.
They stressed that it was wrong for people to associate northerners with child marriage when it is celebrated in the east.
Most people from the east have a custom which requires only sons to marry earlier when their fathers are dead to keep the family name alive.
