Governor
Nyesom Wike began the Real Madrid Academy during his first term as governor of
Rivers state. He made several trips to Spain to have first-hand knowledge and
discussions with managers of the famous Real Madrid on his plans to build a
football Academy in PortHarcourt.
That dream has been fulfilled and the Academy seems
to be one of Wike’s biggest achievements. Wike ensured that the Football
Academy was taken away from the Ministry of sports to his own office.
He hopes to give the sports top priority because of
its immense potentials. Real Madrid s one of the most suscessful club in spain
and the government of Rivers state wants a replica of their academy in
PrtHarcourt so that new talents can be identified and groomed from Ngeria.
His commitment to sports development is second to
known as no current governor in Nigeria has made such an investment.
