On Wednesday,
residents of Dawaki area of Bwari Area council were left in shock after they
woke to find a young man electrocuted on an electric pole.
They had gathered in large numbers and officials of the Abuja Electricity
Distribution Company (AEDC) were available to help remove the electrocuted man
from the poll. It was alleged that the man was trying to steal cables from the
transformer.
Some onlookers claimed that cables from transformers are sold at very
exorbitant prices which have made it a lucrative business for criminals to keep
vandalizing public facilities.
The police were also at the scene and investigation has commenced on the
incident.
The victim probably committed the crime at midnight when there was a
power outage. He had climbed the pole and even succeeded in removing some
cables when power was restored.
