Vote-buying is a trend
that has characterized the electoral system of Nigeria and has affected the
credibility of elections in many states. It is just a few hours to another
election in Kogi and Bayelsa states and political gladiators may have employed
vote-buying as the surest way to emerge victorious in elections.
While it is assumed that most politicians and their agents will offer
cash to voters to induce them to vote for their preferred candidate, one
anti-corruption body in Nigeria (ICPC).
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offenses (ICPC) has
deployed its men to Kogi state with strict instructions to clampdown on
vote-buying and voter inducement during the governorship election.
Operatives of the agencies will arrest and prosecute anyone found guilty
of engaging in vote-buying or voter-inducements during the election.
