In
the early hours of Sunday, December 15, 2019, reports emerged on social media
that former military President Ibrahim Babangida had died. It was reported that
former Nigeria's number one citizen died peacefully at his hilltop residence in
Minna Niger state.
Although no formal
report of the alleged incident was confirmed by a media aide of the general or
his family, the reports spread across various media platforms until it went
viral.
However, there was a
swift response and denial of the news by his aides after prominent persons were
said to have called at his hilltop residence to verify the report.
Subsequently, his media
aides debunked the story describing it as hate speech saying that General
Ibrahim Babangida is hail and hearty and has been receiving guests at his Minna
hilltop residence.
