It said the free rides would last for four months and encouraged commuters to use the train service during the festive season.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who declared this through his official Twitter handle, noticed that the standard measure rail line was prepared for use.
As per him, the free train ride would start on Saturday (today), November 30, 2019, till the finish of the first quarter of 2020.
The minister clarified that the take-off point is the Iju train station in Lagos, while the free rides would help diminish the transportation cost brought about by commuters on the Lagos-Ibadan course.
Amaechi said, "Our free rides on the Lagos-Ibadan standard check rail line will start today (Saturday) and go through Walk 2020.
"Commuters on that course can exploit it and save transportation during the festive period and past. We should ride on the #NextLevel. Take-off point is Iju."
The minister's tweet was welcomed with several reactions, as some of his followers praised the move, while others reprimanded the advancement.
Femi Otunba tweeted, "The lion of the Niger Delta, the Knight and the crusader of next level, much thanks for not disappointing Nigeria and the peoples President, PMB."
Be that as it may, Adedayo Adeyemo didn't see any sense in the course of action, as he stated that "there will pack, nobody to consider responsible for poor service as it is free.
"Office will be harmed due to stuffed coaches and given that the train was obtained through loan, how does free service help reimburse the loan?"
