When
Pastor Ize Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party contested against his main
rival Governor Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress in the 2016
governorship election in Edo state there were heavy criticisms on both sides
that a novice in politics will think that they are strange bedfellows.
But in reality, both
Pastor Ize Iyamu and Godwin Obaseki are political sons of the national chairman
of APC Adams Oshiomhole. Just about a month ago, Pastor Ize Iyamu decamped from
the PDP to the APC and was formerly received this week.
For those who have been
following political happenings in Edo state, they know that Adams Oshiomhole
does not want Obaseki to have a second term as governor even though he
vigorously campaigned against him in 2016.
He now thinks that Ize
Iyamu is better and should get the All Progressives Congress (APC) party
ticket.
Recently an attempt by
the Oshiomhole faction of the APC to hold a grand rally was stopped due to
security fears. Loyalists of the APC went further to assemble at Ize Iyamu's
residence.
Governor Obaseki who
successfully aborted the rally vowed that since political rallies have been
banned the government will withdraw the certificate of occupancy of anyone who
allows political gatherings to take place in his residence.
