The
President of Ghana has directed that all agencies and organs of government in
Ghana patronize only made in Ghana rice as part of their local content policy
which is designed to grow the local economy.

Ado is said to be promoting a strictly Ghanaian economy after Africa’s largest
market closed its borders in a policy that has shocked many African economies.
There are also
unverified rumors that Nigerians who reside in Ghana are facing discrimination
because of the border policy which is believed to go against the West African
Free Trade Agreement that Nigeria signed.
Many African countries
have been tightening their policies on foreign trade since the Nigerian episode
that led to the ban on the importation of rice. After various calls for a
reopening of the border African countries have also begun strengthening their internal
economy.
