2020 began on a very problematic note for
workers in Ekiti State as the state government is said to have concluded plans
to sack over 10,000 workers across various ministries departments and agencies.
This
is a result of a committee report which submitted that many workers in the
state present forged documents for employment. Some critics blame the
government of Governor Ayodele Fayose for carrying out massive employment
towards the end of his second term in office.
Members
of the public and Nigerians, in general, are worried about the sad development
which will render thousands of people jobless in Ekiti state. Feras abound that
there will be more suffering in the state if such a large number of people are
rendered unemployed.
However,
trade unions and the organized labor in Ekiti state have kicked against the
move and are threatening a showdown with the state government if further sack
of workers takes place.
