COVID-19 & THE YEAR OF THE NURSE AND MIDWIFE | THEY NEVER TOLD US - Nrs Otoijaghale Mercy Mary

They declared 2020 "the year of the nurse midwife"
The year of nurses to be celebrated

The year of tremedous change in the nursing profession

The future in our present
Oh how we rejoiced to be part of the vision
But they never told us our lives will be at risk

They never forewarned us to again this beast called corona virus

They never told us we will have to wear face masks for long
They never told us we'd work overtime leaving our family and loved ones indefinitely

The year of the nurse midwife  they said
This is pathetic!

We are supposed to celebrate  and be celebrated
It ought to be all about us
But oh well,  its about us risking ourselves for others

What a year!
Our lives are in danger,
No personal protective  device/devices
And what do we get in return
A roar of "nursing is caring and a calling"

Corona why do you want the world to sing about you instead of singing about nurses?
The world ought to be singing about the nurses and not you
The world ought to be spending on the nurse midwife  but hey you won
Too bad!

We faced and combated Ebola in Nigeria  and lost our dear JUSTINA
We are facing lassa with our colleagues  as patient
We are no way near done and what did we get in return,  a beast in the form of a virus

I know  you'd be feeling all fly and glad you've taken over and instilled fear in the heart of everyone but guess what?
Its too bad you came at the wrong time..
We the nurse midwife  won't stop untill you are totally eradicated  with our victory song lingering on our lips forever!
